business of being born

Yesterday, in preparation for potential motherhood, I watched a documentary called The Business of Being Born on Netflix. Amazing. Apparently America has the highest infant mortality rate in the developed world. With what’s around or over 50% cesarian section rate. (One woman interviewed in the film worked as a midwife in a commune in the 60s said they had to do 2 c-sections in over 300 births.) So naturally I told John when he got home that I planned to give birth at home, with a midwife. He said, and I quote, absolutely not. So we may have a few things to work through before we have children. Anyway, here’s a trailer.
